White and black,
funereally stark,
set off not even
by the simplest raven
bracelet or other blinket,
i didn’t expect much
as my eyes traversed
the plain pale lines..
Was i in for a surprise?!
Jazz was just by the bay,
in a metallic tint
double-blue blare
that toppled the scales
and made me blink
at the screaming
message that peeped
out ever so timidly
off demure toes.
