One-Act Play

even if i’m in love with you,

all this is to say what’s it to you

when i’m the one who’s doing the dreaming

and have asked of you only images and

ones that may not be too real, either,

when i have asked for lil of your time,

timing my glimpses of you with such perfection

that it needs no participation of yours,

when i talk not to you about being in love

but to myself all the while,Β rousing,

reassuring and resigning by turns,

when i’ve sought no part of you but

have chosen to rebuild every chip of you

the way i want you to be,

when i’ve likened you

to a surreal painting

conveying the meanings i’ve assigned

and am now hearing just as i want them heard,

so don’t you come in the way

and play a part when none is assigned.

p.s: the first two lines are borrowed from Suzanne Vega’s song- Marlene on the Wall
