In the buff

i like you best when you’re sleeping,

peaceful, quiet, responsive to the slightest

breath on your cheek, unlined, smooth,

fingers curled into tight little fists,

your back curved away from me,

baby-ish plump feet close together

like fresh, soft petals to stroke,

and your lips, those easy to hurt

ready-to- curve-down pink slips.

i even like the buff-coloured scar

on your ankle, pale like you,

thin, like you, mild, dewed

like you,

wake up, baby

and smell the morning-me.
