Do you see what I see?

what i see

out of the corner of my eye

is what i’m looking for

and stays, static.

what i see

is an eye that meets not mine,

taking shelter instead

behind thick-framed glasses,

ah, but your forehead can’t hide,

high as it is

and can forbid no stares,

looking the way it does.

what i see

is that i can’t see

beyond the tip

of your nose,

even if on tip-toe.

But your words do drift down

and meet mine in flow,

making music mellifluous,

a bridge of sorts

when i’ve already crossed

and am standing

by your shoulder.

what i see

is a one-night stand

and then drifting apart;

a tie and then, good-bye,

if only you’d meet my eye!
