Cold call

“What’re you looking at-

The scar on my back?

My wary eye?

My ex’s marks?”

“I am looking

for a shiver,

a panicky eye,

the sweat drops

as you turn

and run.”

    Very subtle. Félicitations.

  3. Tara R. says:

This was very menacing to me. That last line was particularly threatening, “as you turn and run.”

  4. Draug419 says:

    I think *I* shivered o__o

  5. deanabo says:

    I could feel the emotions.

  6. Wow. Very nicely done.

  7. jannatwrites says:

Very powerful….the last one made me want to turn and run!

  8. barbara says:

    glad this is past.

    • rashmenon says:

So am I, barbara. This was actually a stray incident in a public place and I have embellished it when fictionalizing it but it does have a grain of reality in it.

    • rashmenon says:

And in India, a woman/ two or even 3 women sans male company in a public place after daylight are thought to be easy prey. At least by some sections of the population. So, one attracts stares and lewd remarks and such unpleasantness 😐

  9. Christine says:

Yikes. It was scary *before* I knew it was based on an actual incident. In context (especially in light of the recent spotlight on India in these matters), it’s absolutely terrifying. Aside from that – it’s beautifully written. You do amazing things with words.

    • rashmenon says:

Thank you, Christine. It is gratifying to know that there are people who pay attention to what goes on in other remote parts of the world. Yes, as a nation, our track-record when it comes to treatment of women is dismal to say the least 😦

  10. Neetika says:

oooh that was damn scary… yet sad, when you say its not entirely fictional.

  11. Ooooohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh. Running.

  12. Bee says:

This really raised my anxiety up a notch — really emotionally provocative.
