An Open Letter to Beauty

i see you

in the ocean-blue of a tranquil sea,

the gorgeous green of new new leaves,

the jet black of my mother’s hair,

the faint down on a baby neck.

i see you

in bristly mascara-fed lashes,

lissome legs, laces and lilac dresses,

in my eye as i hope and dream

of a day yet to come.

i see you

in apple pie crumbly

and sticking to a ruddy cheek,

the plump grapes resting in my wicker basket,

the gaudy pink of my plastic flower

that smiles at me out my first floor window.

why do i still feel

i don’t see you often enough,

as much as i would like?

come see me when you’ve time.
